Matildas confident in prep time ahead of World Cup
The Matildas have wrapped up a two-week training camp in Denver, Colorado—one of the key camps ahead of the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.
Matildas’ goalkeeper Lydia Williams said it was a productive time.
“It’s pretty hard these days to get everyone together, especially since we’re playing all over the world,” Williams said.
The camp included a friendly against the USA in Denver which the home side won 5-3.
“Obviously, we would have like to have won that game, but there are a lot of positives to take … We only had two days together before[hand],” Williams said.
New head coach Ante Milicic wasn’t fazed by the loss to the world number 1 side.
“We’ve done a lot of work both on and off the pitch, working on our playing style, on our principles, doing a lot of video review as well,” Milicic said.
“We’ve got a lot to work on, we’re aware of that, but we’re quite confident in the preparation and time we have moving forward that that will be enough to put us in a good position coming into the World Cup.”
The World Cup starts on June 7th and runs for a month.
