Kaatijin series targets young Noongar audiences

Western Australia’s Yirra Yaakin Theatre company will premiere a new work on October 27.

Boodjar Kaatijin will be the third instalment of the company’s Kaatijin series of new works for younger audiences.

It incorporates puppets, masks and live music with storytelling to share Noongar understanding of the earth and country.

The new work is based on the creation stories in and around the Perth area.

Audiences will learn about The First Sunrise; The Creation of Kings Park and How the Kangaroo Got Its Colour; How the Echidna Got Its Spikes; and The Creation of Wave Rock and the Stars.

The show is suitable for audiences aged four and above.

It runs from October 27 to November 5 at the Subiaco Arts Centre.
